We're in the cold. Only a shade remains of the last light and, with it, the world lives in darkness. Some of it survives. Within you resides a remnant of ages past. 'I see you. I see you. I see you.' the words shiver through frozen lips. They try to find yours. 'I see you. I see you. I see you.' I repeat, but I can't find you. It feels more like a wish or a hopeful delusion. A way to convince myself. A denial of reality that is all too real. 'I see you. I see you. I see you.' My teeth clatter and salty rain runs through my cheeks. You're not there. You're not here. We're not here. We're long gone from this place, but I do remain. I do see you. I do feel you. Every time my eyes are forced to close, I see you. You're real. They remain shut more often than not lately. I don't fight it. I'm eager for it. 'I see you. I see you. I see you.' Who's to say what's real in this world where the absent sun bathes us in darkness. You're real enough. All I have to do is to keep my eyes closed and you exist. That's what I'll do. That's what I'll keep doing. One day they won't open. Maybe then, I'll find you. I'll see you.
